Visiting Student & Research Scholar
ⅠRegistration
All students have to register at the International Students Office on their designated day of registration. Please present your student ID/Admission Notification/passport to the staff when registering.
Students must register in person. Keep in mind that no one can register on your behalf. Students must have already paid their tuition fees prior to their registration. You are not eligible to register if the records show that your tuition fees have not been paid in full.
The registration period generally takes place during the first week of classes. If a student cannot register at their designated time of registration, they are required to apply for a leave of absence in advance. For those who failed to register on time and did not apply for a leave of absence, their absence will be recorded as an act of truancy or an unexcused absence in their attendance record. Students who have not registered two weeks after their designated day of registration will be dismissed from the university.
After finishing the registration procedure at the ISO, Chinese Language student are also requested to register at the Teaching Affair Office of School of International Education. The assistant at TAO will help arrange the placement test, select courses for students. The Teaching Aaffair Office is mainly in charge of Chinese Language students’ daily study affairs, including making transcripts, student ID card and completion certificate.
Ⅱ.Academic Schedule
An academic year consists of two semesters: the Autumn Semester and the Spring Semester. The duration of each semester is eighteen weeks, with the last two weeks scheduled for course review and examination. The university has an eight-week-long summer break that begins at the beginning of July. The winter break usually starts from the end of January or early February and lasts four weeks. For more details regarding the academic schedule, please refer to the university’s academic calendar.
Ⅲ.Duration of Study
The Undergraduate Students are given a time limit of 4 or 5 years to complete their studies; 2 or 3 years for Graduate Students (depending on the student’s field of specialization/major); 3 years for Doctorate Students, and 1 year for General Visiting Students and Senior Visiting Students. Students may apply for early graduation if they have fulfilled their respective graduation requirements prior to their designated time of graduation. Students may request to extend their duration of study to the University if they cannot complete their studies as scheduled.
Ⅳ. Course Requirement
The host college in which the international students study is responsible for teaching program development, course arrangement, course selection and other routine affairs for general visiting students. You may consult the teaching assistant for more information about courses selection. After selecting the required courses in your host college, you may sign up to take no more than 2 courses offered by other colleges.
Senior visiting student and research scholar should make a study plan and conduct research under the guidance of their supervisor. They can apply to take some courses offered by other college if their supervisor support.
V.Attendance & Leave of Absence
Students’ attendance is recorded for all lectures, tests, examinations and other forms of academic activities. If a student can not attend any of the above mentioned academic activities, he or she must requests for leave of absences in advance. Unexcused absences are considered as acts of truancy. Students intending to leave for personal reasons should submit a written application with supporting documents to the pertinent office 3 working days prior to their leave. Students requesting leave for personal reasons for less than a week, should obtain approval from the teacher or tutor of the host college in charge of international students’ affairs. In case of leave more than one week, the student must get the approval from the vice-dean of the host college. Specifically, Chinese language students who intend to leave within three days should obtain agreement from the Chinese teacher and teaching secretary. Student who intend to take leave for more than one week are also required to obtain agreement from the head officer of ISO.
