The history of the College of Mathematics and Statistics of Chongqing University can be traced back to the Science College of Chongqing University established in 1929 and the Business College of Chongqing University established in 1937. The college resumed its name as Science College in July 1998. In January 2001, the Department of Mathematics of Chongqing Jianzhu University was merged in, then it was renamed the College of Mathematics and Physics. Later it became the College of Mathematics and Statistics officially in June 2010. During the past ninety years, a lot of famous mathematicians, like He Lu, Ke Zhao, Hu Kunsheng, Duan Tiaoyuan, Pan Pu, Zhou Xueou, etc. have served as teachers here. After several generations of unremitting efforts, the college currently has many research and teaching practice platforms, such as a first-level discipline doctoral program in mathematics, a first-level discipline doctoral program in statistics, a postdoctoral mobile station in mathematics, a first-level key discipline of mathematics in Chongqing, a first-level key discipline of Statistics in Chongqing, and a Key Laboratory of "Analytical Mathematics and Application" in Chongqing, a "Nonlinear Analysis and Application" Key Laboratory of Chongqing Universities, Institute of MathematicsofChongqing, Mathematics Center in Chongqing University, Chongqing Mathematics Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Chongqing University Mathematics Science Innovation Practice Workstations and so on.

In recent years, the College of Mathematics and Statistics has focused on international frontier hot issues and followed the national strategic needs to build quit a few distinctive research teams. The dynamical system and ergodic theory research team, created the profound application of functional analysis and operator algebra in dynamical systems, and solved a series of important conjectures, and published 3 papers in the top four mathematics journals. It has been cited many times by famous mathematiciansinclude Fields Medal Winner E. Lindenstrauss. The functional analysis research team has solved a number of open problemsunsolved for decades in operator theory and achieved a series research results with international influence. The differential equation research team has published a series of high-level papers in the top mathematics journals like Adv. Math., Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal., etc., and the team has won 3 provincial research awards. The operations research and computing research team was invited by Professor F. Giannessi, the winner of the Italian National Highest Science and Technology Award, to write a series of review articles, and won 1 provincial research award. The statistical research team has published more than 100 SCI papers in top statistical journals as Biometrics, Scand. Actuar. J., etc.

The mathematics discipline was listed as a key cultivated discipline for the "Double First Class" construction of Chongqing University in 2016, and was ranked B+ in the fourth round of discipline evaluation in 2016. It also entered the top 1% of ESI disciplines in the world in 2017 and selected as the first batch of "first-class majors" in Chongqing in 2018. In 2019, it was listed in the first batch of national "Double Ten Thousand Plan". And in 2020, it was selected as the first batch of national "Strong Base Plan". According to the actuarial discipline ranking of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the actuarial field of statistics ranked 26th in the world in 2015-2019.

The College of Mathematics and Statistics consists of the Department of Mathematics, Department of Information and Computing Science, and Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science. There are 4 undergraduate majors including Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Information and Computing Science, Statistics, and Financial Mathematics. The college has 113 faculty members, including: 97 full-time teachers, 16 management and experimental staff.It has 30 professors/researchers and 31 associate professors/associate researchers. It has 26 doctoral supervisors and 58 master supervisors. It also has 2 New century talents of Ministry of Education, 1 national outstanding contribution expert, 1 winner of the State Council government special allowance, 4 members of the National Teaching (Professional) Steering Committee, 2 Chongqing "Hundred Talents Program" scholars, 2 Chongqing "322 Key TalentsProject", 8 academic leaders of Chongqing, 2 reserve talents of science, academic and technology of Chongqing, 1 outstanding teacher of Chongqing, 3 young and middle-aged backbone teachers of Chongqing, and 5 scholars in the "Hundred Talents Program" of Chongqing University.

Currently, the College of Mathematics and Statistics has 705 undergraduates and 295 postgraduates, including 43 doctoral students, 117 full-time academic master students, and 102 full-time professional master students. The college offers more than 100 undergraduate courses forChongqing University each year, including more than 60 public courses and nearly 20 general education and quality education courses. There are more than 80 graduated courses, of which nearly 40 are public courses. Among the undergraduate graduates, more than 40% are recommended to further study in famous domestic and foreign universities.

The college has 2 national-level first-class online courses, 2 national-level first-class online and offline mixed courses, 1 nationalexcellent resource sharing course, and 2 Chongqingexcellent online open courses. It has won 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 second prizes of National Teaching Achievement Award, 5 first prizes of Chongqing Teaching Achievement Award, 2 first prizes of Natural Science Award of Ministry of Education, and 2 second prizes of Natural Science Award of Chongqing province.
