On the afternoon of March 2, 2023, the Liberal Arts College of Chongqing University & Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Science held a general meeting to formally announce the establishment of the "Research Center for Classical Civilizations and Political Philosophy", "Research Center for Phenomenology and First Philosophy" and "Research Center for Confucian Classics" in the Department of Philosophy. The leader of the college presented plaques to the newly established research centers. The three research centers were established so that faculty members can leverage their own advantages, form research groups for scholarly breakthroughs, and support the development of the discipline. It was another milestone in the history of the Philosophy Department in Chongqing University.

The Research Center for Classical Civilizations and Political Philosophy: In order to facilitate the communication and mutual appreciation between different civilizations, and putting forward the interaction between the study of classics and history, scholars in this research center aim to explore and think about the origin and development of ancient, modern, Chinese/Eastern and Western civilizations, especially through the lens of political theories and philosophy. At the same time, scholars also pay attention to the practical experience of institutional construction and national governance, especially what is manifested in the ancient sources and transmutation of various civilizations. (Head of the Center: Prof. Zhang Wentao)

Research Center for Phenomenology and First Philosophy: Taking "Phenomenology and First philosophy" as the main direction of inquiry, the research center attempts to deepen dialogue and debates between Phenomenology and the tradition of First Philosophy. It aims not only to bring new light to traditional researches in philosophy by phenomenological methods, explore things that have not been considered in the history of philosophy, but also reactivate the consciousness of philosophical problems of Phenomenology with the original appeal of traditional philosophy. Scholars in this academic center aim to expand the boundary of phenomenological thinking. (Head of the Center: Prof. Xie Limin)

Research Center for Confucian Classics: Based on the in-depth study and research of Confucian Classics, it would focus on the research of thought of Confucian Classics and the collation of Confucian Classics and literature. In the study and exploration of classics culture, the multiple paths of the study of Confucian Classics should be expanded, and the significance of the study of Confucian Classics to modern academia should be observed. At the same time, it comprehensively supports the discipline construction and development of Confucian Classics and Confucian Philosophy, and gradually forms a relatively complete research system of Confucian Classics. (Head of the Center: Chen Xubo)

In the future, each center would actively host various academic conferences, lectures, discussion and reading groups based on their own research interests. Meanwhile, each center would also give full play to their team advantages in the project application, publication establishment, textbook compilation, talent introduction, international cooperation and other aspects, so as to comprehensively enhance academic influence, support discipline construction, and promote philosophy research in the western region of China and even the entire country.
